Ms Jehan Ara is the President of the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES (P@SHA). She has been spearheading efforts at P@SHA for the past 14 years during which time she was responsible for developing the P@SHA brand and for creating linkages between P@SHA and local and international partners.
Ms Jehan Ara has vast experience in marketing, communications and interactive new media. Mr Shahidul Alam
A photographer, writer, curator and activist, Dr Shahidul Alam obtained a PhD in chemistry from University of London before switching to photography. Returning to his hometown, Dhaka, in 1984, he documented the democratic struggle to remove General Ershad. A former president of the Bangladesh Photographic Society, Dr Alam set up the award winning Drik agency, Bangladesh Photographic Institute, Chobi Mela festival, Majority World agency and Pathshala, the South Asian Media Institute, considered one of the finest schools of photography in the world.
Dr Alam’s work has been shown in MOMA New York, Centre Georges Pompidou Paris, Royal Albert Hall and Tate Modern London and Museum of Contemporary Arts Tehran. He has been a guest curator of Whitechapel Gallery, Winterthur Gallery, National Art Gallery Malaysia, Musee de Quai Branly and Brussels Biennale. His numerous photographic awards include Mother Jones, Howard Chapnick Grant, Open Society Institute Audience Engagement Grant and Shilpakala Award, the highest state honour given to Bangladeshi artists.
A speaker at Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, Oxford and Cambridge universities, museums in all continents, as well as TEDx, POPTech and National Geographic, Dr Alam has been a jury member in prestigious international contests, including World Press Photo, which he chaired. Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, he is a visiting professor of Sunderland University in UK and advisory board member of National Geographic Society and Eugene Smith Fund.

Mr Kaiser Bengali is an economist with 35 years of experience in teaching, research and policy advice in Pakistan and abroad. He has a Master’s degree in Economics from Boston University, USA, and a PhD in Economics from University of Karachi, Pakistan. Kami Sid is a social activist known for working for Pakistan’s transgender community. Her powerful debut photo-shoot in the fashion world drew public attention to issue of trans phobia. Kami has also used her participation in several documentary projects (Chuppan Chupai, BBC 3 documentary & ‘How Gay Is Pakistan’) to raise global awareness on trans and LGB issues in Pakistan. Mr Nayyar Ali Dada
Mr Nayyar Ali Zaidi was born in Delhi and migrated with his family to Pakistan in the 1950s. He received his architectural training from the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore. He was named ‘Dada’ by one of his teachers in recognition of his skills at drawing and painting.
His works have been recognised both at home and abroad. He pioneered the cause of conservation in Pakistan, and is a founding member of the Lahore Conservation Society. Mr Dada is devoted to the education of young architects, and has been a lecturer at NCA since 1965. He was named a Fellow of the College in 1976. Mr Dada is actively involved in the creative arts in Pakistan, both as a water colourist and as the director of a private gallery. He is a board member of and advisor to many cultural institutions. Mr Amin Gulgee
Mr Amin Gulgee received a BA in Art History and Economics from Yale University, USA in 1987 and won the Conger B Goodyear Fine Arts Award for his senior thesis on Moghul gardens. The sculptor has worked from his studio in Karachi for more than two decades and has exhibited extensively both at home and abroad. Mr Alex Haines
Barrister at Law
Mr Alex Haines, a French-British national, is a barrister based in London specialising in the internal law of international organisations. He regularly appears and litigates before International Administrative Tribunals (e.g. the United Nations Appeals Tribunal and the Administrative Tribunal of the Asian Development Bank); and (ii) International Sanctions Boards (e.g. the World Bank Sanctions Board and the Asian Development Bank’s Integrity Oversight Committee) in London, Washington DC, New York City, Geneva and Manila.
Mr Haines is a member of the Bar Council of England and Wales’ International Committee and he sits on Transparency International’s Suspension and Debarment Anti-Corruption Taskforce. He is a rapporteur for Oxford International Organisations (OXIO), and also sits as Honorary Board Member of the Exeter Student Law Review.
Prior to being called to the Bar in 2007, Mr Haines, who is fluent in English, French and Spanish, completed a Master’s degree in European and International Law. He worked for the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague on the Democratic Republic of the Congo Katanga case before undertaking pupillage in London.
He has given presentations on tackling corruption internationally and the role of the sanctions regimes of multilateral development banks in the anti-corruption fight to the Bar Associations of Brazil, Korea and Shanghai, as well as the British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
He has lectured at the Universities of Brasilia, Exeter, City of London, Hong Kong, King’s College London and La Sorbonne on the immunities of international organisations and the applicability of international human rights law to their internal systems.

Mr Salman Hameed

Mr Salman Hameed is Charles Taylor Chair and associate professor of Integrated Science and Humanities in the school of Cognitive Science at Hampshire College, Massachusetts, US. He is also the director of the Center for the Study of Science in Muslim Societies (SSiMS). His early education was all in Karachi. Mr Hameed then obtained his BS in Physics and Astronomy from Sony Brook University, NY, and his PhD in Astronomy from New Mexico State University. His astronomy research focused on star formation in spiral galaxies. His current research, however, is focused on understanding the reception of science in the Muslim world and how Muslims view the relationship between science and religion. Mr Hameed recently led a four-year National Science Foundation (NSF) funded study on the reception of biological evolution in diverse Muslim societies. He is also leading a study to understand and analyse the discourse and participants in online Islam and Science videos. Mr Hameed has taught courses on “Evolution, Islam, and Modernity,” "Aliens: Close Encounters of a Multidisciplinary Kind", "Creating science fiction short films using real science" (with Dr. Jason Tor), and “Science & Religion: Biological evolution in the public sphere” at Hampshire College.
Mr Hameed also runs Irtiqa, a science and religion blog with an emphasis on scientific debates taking place in the Muslim world. Dr Pervez Amirali Hoodbhoy is a Pakistani nuclear physicist, essayist and national security analyst. Nassir Kasuri is one of the directors and owners of Educational Services Ltd (ESL). ESL operates the Beaconhouse School System and The Educators. Along with his role on the board, he has headed various core operational units within the organisation. He has also spearheaded several projects aimed at diversifying the corporate portfolio.
Educated from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, Nassir has been Director IT at Beaconhouse as well as Chief Executive Officer of The Educators. He is currently the Executive Director for the Beaconhouse Northern Region.
In this role, Nassir is responsible for Operations and Business development of all schools in the Beaconhouse Northern Region, which consists of over 27,000 students in close to 60 branches. It is the most spread out of the three regions in Pakistan, and covers four provincial jurisdictions.

Mr Kasim Kasuri has been CEO of Beaconhouse since 2005. Ms Sheema Kermani
Ms Sheema Kermani is a prominent theatre practitioner and activist for women’s rights and peace. She is also a trained classical dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. Ms Kermani has spent many years working as a political activist.
In 1979, Ms Kermani founded Tehrik-e-Niswan (Women’s Movement), a cultural action group that works to create greater awareness about women’s rights and promotes art and culture. The group has mounted over 100 productions and over a 1000 performances, some of which have been landmarks in the history of Pakistan’s theatre. Ms Kermani has acted in and directed many of these plays. Besides acting on the stage, she has also acted in a number of popular TV plays and serials.

Ms Rina Saeed Khan
Rina Saeed Khan is an award-winning environmental journalist based in Islamabad. She began her career in journalism in 1992 when she joined The Friday Times, where she served as Features Editor till 1998. From 1998 onwards, she began working as a consultant in communications with the UNDP in Pakistan and WWF-Pakistan, writing reports, articles and scripts for documentaries.
Rina completed her BA from Grinnell College, USA in 1991 and in 2000 got her Master’s degree in Environment and Development from the London School of Oriental and African Studies as a Chevening Scholar. She has received international awards like the Earth Journalism Award in Copenhagen during the UN Summit on climate change in 2009 for best reporting on climate change from Asia. Ms Hajra Khan
Captain, Pakistan National Women`s Football Team
Hajra Khan is the captain of Pakistan’s national women’s football team. Growing up, she was a multi-sport athlete and represented Pakistan internationally in other sports as well. Starting her football journey at the age of 14, it took her only two years to move up the ranks from provincial to club to the national team in 2010.
Currently, playing for Balochistan United Women’s Football Club (BUWFC) and SHR Maldives, Hajra is a four-time top scorer at the National Football Championships with a record of 30 goals in six matches and two-time Player of the Tournament.
She is the first female footballer to have been signed by an international club and the only one in South Asia to have a club career record of 103 goals in 45 matches. Ms Gelareh Kiazand
Gelareh Kiazand, based between Tehran and Toronto, was born in Iran in 1981, and studied in London and Toronto. She worked in Iran's film industry for six years, initially as a film photographer for Iran's feature films and later as a director of photography for documentaries. During her time in Iran, Gelareh was nominated three times for best film photographer, won best cinematographer at the Basij Film Festival as well as best documentary at the Tehran film festival. She was chosen, alongside others, to have her work in the top 100 photos exhibited at the Museum of Modern Arts in Tehran as well as Arles Photo Festival in 2017. In 2010 she moved to Afghanistan working as a creative director and filmmaker, directing a 130-part documentary series across Afghanistan. Mr Arif Mahmood has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Otterbein College, Ohio USA. He started photography on returning to Karachi in 1985, areas of interest being photojournalism, portraiture and fashion. Ms Sana Mir is the Captain of the National Women's Cricket Team. She learnt cricket in the streets as a young girl. Since 2009, Ms Mir has led her team to two gold medals in the Asian Games (2010 and 2014), their first tournament win in a quadrangular series in Sri Lanka in 2011 and their highest world ranking. Her career also boasts T20 wins over India and England and a 4-wicket haul in World XI.

Zain Mustafa is a Parsons School of Design and Columbia University educated architect, international award-winning interior designer and an educator.
He is the president and founding member of the Society for the Protection of Animal Rights (SPAR) which came into existence in July 2018. Mr Harsh Narayan, an alumnus of IIM, Calcutta and NIFT Delhi, is a creative director and filmmaker from New Delhi, having varied interests in the field of art and creativity. Mr Narayan has been mentored in creativity by the veteran filmmaker Mr Shyam Benegal for more than 15 years.

Nadia Naviwala is an independent American writer and researcher based in Islamabad. She investigates and writes about foreign aid, local philanthropy, civil society, and education in Pakistan.
Nadia moved to Islamabad in 2012 as Pakistan Country Representative for the United States Institute of Peace. At USIP, she started the Peace Innovations Fund to give small, flexible support to social startups. Prior, she served as a Pakistan Desk Officer at USAID and a National Security Aide in the U.S. Senate. She started the internship program at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, DC as a college student in 2002.
She taught U.S. foreign policy at the National Defense University in Islamabad in 2014.

Ms Joanna Reid

Ms Joanna Reid has been Head of DFID Pakistan since December 2015 and manages DFID’s largest bilateral programme here. She was formerly head of DFID Sudan where she managed DFID’s humanitarian and development programmes in a challenging political environment. She has also served as head of DFID Somalia and DFID Yemen.
Ms Reid’s early career was in Health Service Management in the National Health Service in Scotland, and latterly she was director of Corporate Development at a medium-sized general hospital. Her career in development began with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) in China.

Ms Gillian Rhodes
Ms Gillian Rhodes is a trans-national American artist, primarily working as a dancer and choreographer. After graduating from Columbia University with a BA in dance, she moved to Cambodia, where she spent three years working with young Cambodian artists and choreographing for local television. She is currently based in Seoul, South Korea, where she dances for a professional contemporary company.
Apart from dancing, Ms Rhodes also writes extensively and has co-authored books with her father and her sister. Mr Ghazi Salahuddin
Ghazi Salahuddin is a senior journalist who writes a weekly column for The News (English) and Jang (Urdu). Before he became the launch editor of The News in Karachi in February 1991, he served Dawn in many important positions. During the Martial Law of Gen Zia-ul-Haq, his column ‘Karachi Diary’ was a leading voice of dissent. Ms Afia Salam
Afia Salam is a freelance journalist, media development and environment practitioner and a social activist. She contributes to Dawn, Express Tribune, Newsline, Aurora, The News on Sunday Pique and ThirdPole. She has a Master’s degree in Geography from the University of Karachi but ventured into journalism and became Pakistan's first female cricket journalist.

Ms Tina Sani
Tina Sani began her journey with music in 1979. Over three decades later, she may be appreciated amongst the leading ghazal singers of the day. A purist by temperament, Tina initiated formal training in Indian classical music with Ustad Nizamuddin Khan Sahib and later with Ustad Chand Amrohvi.
Over time, she merged her commitment to the classical discipline with a native love for Urdu poetry. Her performances are considered emotively rich, full of vocal nuance and lyrical feeling. Tina's repertoire includes poets such as Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Ahmad Faraz,Perveen Shakir, Daagh, Mir, Mirza Ghalib, Firaq Gorakhpuri, Allama Iqbal and Rumi amongst others.
She has performed at a wide range of international forums, bearing the firm belief that music crosses all borders. Performing not only all over Pakistan but in many parts of the world like Ireland, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Dubai, Croatia, India, Turkey, North and South Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Germany, US and UK and recently in September 2016 at the Oslo Mela Festival where she collaborated with a jazz ensemble. Ms Kamila Shamsie is the author of six novels. Her first novel, In the City by the Sea, received the Prime Minister’s Award for Literature from the Pakistan Academy of Letters. Two later novels - Kartography and Broken Verses - received the Patras Bukhari Award, also from the Pakistan Academy of Letters. Her fifth novel, Burnt Shadows, has been translated into more than 20 languages and was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction. Ms Saman Shamsie is the author of two books for children: The Magical Woods (OUP, 2014) and The Adventures of Slothful Slough-off (OUP, 2010); her story, The Heartbeat Tree appeared in Magic Stories for Eight Year Olds (Puffin India,2012). Both books, The Magical Woods and The Adventures of Slothful Slough-off were shortlisted for the UBL Jung Literary Excellence Prize. Ms Shamsie lives in Karachi, where she was born and educated. Mr Ali Tauqeer Sheikh is the CEO and National Programme Director of the Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) Pakistan. Mr Tasneem Siddiqui
Mr Tasneem Siddiqui joined the erstwhile Civil Service of Pakistan in 1965 and rose to become Chief Secretary government of Sindh, before his retirement.
Working as Director General Hyderabad Development Authority, Mr Siddiqui developed interest in affordable housing and with his team of dedicated colleagues, was successful in evolving and implementing the innovative concept of ‘incremental housing development’. The project known as ‘Khuda-ki-Basti’ is now internationally recognised as one of the best options for sheltering the poor. Mr Siddiqui was awarded the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1995. For excellence in public service, he won Ramon Magsaysay Award and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1999. As a development practitioner, Mr Siddiqui evolved new concepts of pro-poor planning in other fields also.
He is a prolific writer. His three books, Towards Good Governance, Dynamics of Social Change and Time for Change have been well received. He is on the visiting faculty of many universities and training institutions and divides his time between Saiban – an NGO established in 1991, and Orangi Pilot Project.

Ms Christina Von Sperling Afridi
Ms Cristina Von Sperling Afridi, a Brazilian, is the founder of the Karim Khan Afridi Welfare Foundation. She set up this foundation after she lost her 19-year-old to drugs. The mission of the foundation is to disseminate knowledge on the adverse effects of drug use on individuals, the family and society at large; to break the taboos that exist around drug use and enable people to reach out for help.
Ms Afridi has a background in fine arts and interior designing. She did interior designing for the UAE, Portugal and Australian embassies.

Mr Martijn Van Strien

Mr Martijn van Strien graduated from the prestigious Design Academy Eindhoven with majors in textile design and forecasting. Mr Van Strien uses modern technologies to bring innovative ideas to the fashion world. By testing radically different approaches to garment design, production and consumption, he changes our perception and opens possibilities for a more sustainable industry.
In 2015, his studio launched The Post-Couture Collective, an open-source project that spawned the first maker community for garments. It gives consumers the possibility to produce their own clothing by introducing a line of wearable garments designed specifically for production on lasercutters and 3d printers.
In February 2016, he co-wrote and published the Open Source Fashion Manifesto with Vera de Pont. Mr Syed Shafaat Ali is an artist known for mimicking public figures. He was born in Peshawar and is an engineering student.
